Private Pilot

Requirements

- Be at least 17 years of age

- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language

- Obtain at least a current third-class medical certificate

- Receive a minimum of 40 hours of flight time including training and solo flight

- Pass a knowledge test as well as the practical test

International Flight Student Program

Requirements

- Be at least 17 years of age

- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language

- Obtain at least a current third-class medical certificate

- Receive a minimum of 40 hours of flight time including training and solo flight

- Pass a knowledge test as well as the practical test

Certified Flight Instructor

Requirements

- Hold a commercial pilots license with a instrument rating

- Have a spin endorsement 

- Pass the Certified Flight Instructor written as well as Fundamentals of Instruction written 

- Pass the Certified Flight Instructor practical exam

Certified Flight Instructor Instrument

Requirements

- Posses a Commercial license with a instrument rating

- Pass the Certified Flight Instructor Instrument written exam

- Pass the Certified Flight Instructor Instrument practical exam

Instrument Pilot

Requirements

-Hold at least a current private pilot certificate or be concurrently applying for a private pilot certificate with an airplane, helicopter, or powered-lift rating appropriate to the instrument rating sought.

-Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.

You must have logged the following:

-At least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command. At least 10 of these hours must be in airplanes for an instrument-airplane rating.

-A total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time on the areas of operation listed in 61.65(c).

-At least 15 hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor in the aircraft category for the instrument rating sought.

For instrument-airplane rating, instrument training on cross-country flight procedures that includes at least one cross-country flight in an airplane that is performed under instrument flight rules. This flight must consist of:

-A distance of at least 250 nm along airways or ATC-directed routing.

-An instrument approach at each airport.

-Three different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems (Example: ILS, VOR, GPS, etc).

-At least 3 hours of instrument training that is appropriate to the instrument rating sought from an authorized instructor in preparation for the checkride within two calendar months before the examination date.

Commercial Pilot

Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language

  • Obtain at least a 3rd Class Medical Certificate

  • Receive and log ground training

  • Log at least 250 hours of flight time as a pilot that includes:

    • 100 hours in powered aircraft

    • 100 hours of pilot in command time that includes:

    • 20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor (CFI) that includes:

      • 10 hours of instrument flight training

      • 10 hours of training in a complex airplane

      • 2 hours of cross country training to an airport more than 100 nautical miles (NM) from the starting point during daytime

      • 2 hours of cross country training to an airport more than 100 NM from the starting point during nighttime

      • 3 hours of Practical Test preparation

    • 10 hours of solo flight time or 10 hours with an instructor performing the duties of pilot in command that includes:

      • One solo cross country of at least 300 NM with full stop landings at a minimum of 3 points one of which is at least 250 NM from the starting point

      • 5 hours of night flight with 10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower (Brainard Airport meets this requirement!)

  • Pass a Knowledge (written) Test

  • Pass a Practical (flight) Test
